Ben Lee’s day job is rockin’ around the world with fellow electric violinist Linzi Stoppard in their violin band FUSE.

But as we have discussed in other FUSE blogs there is another side to violinist Ben Lee – he is the world most successful record breaking violinist to ever pick up the instrument. Others have tried to emulate his astonishing ability but so far he is unrivalled.

FASTEST VIOLIN : new Guinness World Record : November 2010 : FUSE
In order to achieve a world record there are very stringent regulations set in place by Guinness World Records.
These include playing the correct version of Flight Of The Bumblebee (there are several!), no speeding up or slowing down is allowed, you must ensure the speed is maintained, must played without any errors (including variations in rhythms or pitch, and the piece of music must be played in full. Of course if the piece of music is unrecognisable this won’t count either.
This all sounds pretty straightforward and what you might expect for a record attempt but when you contemplate doing this at 17 notes per second (Ben’s fastest speed) you begin to realise the scale of his feat.
